Last time I checked mdev it had far too little functionality as to be
usable in my system.
Actually I use it just for initial population of /dev ("mdev -s").
BTW, yestarday I moved to kernel 2.6.20 and noticed that mdev currently
relies in deprecated sysfs entries (if you turn off SYSFS_DEPRECATED in
the kernel build, mdev -s fails to create many devices, most notably
/dev/ttyS0).
