init / console

Hi all,

first i want to say hello to all of you. i'm a beginner with embedded linux and busybox and i have still many questions and problems :)

i use a virtex4fx12 minimodul with an embedded powerpc. u-boot works fine, kernel boots up but output from the busybox init does not appears on the console. i have one uartlite, giving the consol=ttyUL0 command to the kernel. i can see the bootup messages but
after the "Freeing unused kernel memory: 104k " message i see only a  "lo". it seems that the console dies at this moment.

is it possible to use one serial connection for console and a login ? what devices do i need and how does the inittab looks like ?
