Hi,

The attached patch provides shrinkage when building a shared lib.

There is one unrelated hunk in there to avoid a known (and fixed in 4.4,
IIRC) bug with --combine; search for flush_update and
rtnl_filter_flush_update. I will probably drop this hunk (or if
somebody reviews it, we should apply it separately).

Objections? Ok to commit?
